Details:
HBS were appointed as part of the Contractor D&B team to undertake the detail design of a new low energy naturally ventilated Head Office for the publisher John Wiley. HBS carried out extensive CFD modelling which influenced the final Architectural design of the building, which comprised open plan office accommodation with a floor area of 5750m2 over Grd, 1st and 2nd floors all opening onto an atrium located in the centre of the building. Exposed concrete soffits with automatic opening windows assist in the control of the internal environment during summer together with low energy lighting. The atrium, together with continuous perimeter glazing formed the main feature of a natural ventilation strategy with the glazed roof also incorporating automatic openers. There are 2 No. core areas (east & west) providing reception, display, conference, individual office and toilet facilities together with passenger and goods lift provision.
